Configure the Notification service with Google's Gmail SMTP server and Modern Authentication

This topic describes the second part of the fourth configuration task in the process of setting up the Notification service configured with Google's Gmail SMTP server to use modern authentication.

Perform this task in the eCopy ShareScan Administration Console after you have successfully:

  • registered a Google application for Token Vault on the Google Cloud Platform Console portal,
  • registered a Google authorization provider with Gmail scope set in Token Vault,
  • authorized Token Vault in Google, and
  • configured Token Vault settings in the ShareScan Administration Console under Advanced > Tools.

To configure the eCopy ShareScan Notification service with Google's Gmail SMTP server and modern authentication, perform the following steps.

  1. Open the Notification service configuration panel and set the Configured setting as 'Yes' in the Administration Console.
  2. For SMTP Server type, either select 'Google' to set the default values for the Google's Gmail SMTP server automatically, or select 'Generic' and enter the Google's Gmail SMTP server fully qualified name and port as SMTP Server and SMTP server port, and then select 'Yes' as Secure SMTP.
  3. Select Use Modern Authentication (OAuth2) as the SMTP Sever Authentication.
  4. Select the Authentication method and specify the user credentials under the Token Vault setting group.

    If you select Password as Authentication method, enter the Username, Password and Domain.

    If you select One-time passcode as Authentication method, specify the Username in User Principal Name (UPN) format.

    Verify that this user has previously authorized the Token Vault in Google through a Token Vault Google authorization provider - as described in Authorize a Google provider in Token Vault.
  5. Configure other settings for the Notification service (such as From and To under the E-mail address setting group).
  6. Click the Test button to test the configuration. If you selected One-time passcode as Authentication method, specify a valid One-time passcode, which was generated by Token Vault or an authenticator app set up on the Token Vault UI, on the One-time passcode dialog and click OK.

    If the above authorization was not completed before the test, this test fails.

  7. Continue the Notification service configuration.
Once these configuration steps are also complete, the Notification service configured with Google's Gmail SMTP server and modern authentication is operational in the eCopy ShareScan workflows.
