Import into Excel

To import CSV files into Excel, complete the following steps.

  1. Open a new document in Excel.
  2. Select the Data tab.
  3. In the Get & Transform Data section on the ribbon, click From Text/CSV.
    The Import Data window opens.
  4. Navigate to the desired CSV or text file and click Import.

    In the window that opens, you might need to perform additional steps to ensure the proper display of characters for certain languages.

    1. From the File origin list, select the option best suited to the language used in the file.
      Start with the Unicode (UTF-8) setting and check the display of the characters in the preview pane. If this setting does not work, try Unicode (UTF-7) or one of the other encoding options listed under that specific language.
    2. Select Delimiter and other options as necessary.
  5. Click Load to place the data on a separate sheet, or Load to to select where to place the data in Excel.
