Output Manager Universal PostScript Driver
The driver is part of our universal printing concept and works by rendering the job at print time, after the destination has been selected. When the user prints a document, the driver creates a generic PostScript representation of the document and sends it, along with information about how the document should be printed, to Output Manager for processing. Once the document arrives in Output Manager, it can be processed using all of the normal features built into Output Manager, and can routed to a particular destination using any of the usual methods (static routing, dynamic routing, pull printing, and so on). When the document is routed to a specific printer, the generic data and printing options are converted to printer specific commands that print the document correctly on the target printer. This allows the same document to be printed on any supported PostScript printer serviced by Output Manager.
The driver supports clients running Windows XP SP3 and higher, and provides printing options common to most model specific printer drivers. The driver is multilingual and supports English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish. The driver’s user interface dynamically adjusts to the appropriate language based on the user’s language settings Windows, and support multiple languages simultaneously on the same server or client system without having to install different drivers or language packs.
The Universal PostScript Driver is installed with the Output Manager Input Service, and is typically used in a shared printing environment. After setting up the shared printer, network users with appropriate rights simply connect to the shared printer, and are able to print. The Point-And-Print features supported by the driver automatically install the necessary driver files on the client system.
You can also install the Universal PostScript Driver directly on end-user workstations for LPR, IPP, and Native IP Socket printers, which send documents directly to an Output Manager Input Service. In this configuration, users print directly to Output Manager without the need for a print server or shared printer definitions. Your IT department should be able to deploy the driver to end-user workstations using a variety of tools built for that purpose.
